Effect of follicular wave synchronization on superovulatory response of Girolando embryo donors R. Bras. Zootec.
Ferreira,Joaquim Esquerdo; Mello,Marco Roberto Bourg de; Alves,Pedro Afonso de Preaulx Moreira; Mello,Raquel Rodrigues Costa; Palhano,Helcimar Barbosa.
The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of the follicular wave synchronization method on the superovulatory response of Girolando embryo donors. Seven cows and five heifers were divided into three treatments according to the method of the follicular wave synchronization prior to superovulation. The donors were superovulated with eight FSH decreasing doses, adding 133 mg per animal. The superovulatory response was evaluated using an ultrasound device to quantify the number of corpora lutea. The number and quality of recovered structures were also evaluated. Animal category (cow or heifer) and genetic group influenced the superovulatory response, in which heifers showed a greater response (100% in all treatments) compared with cows, which...

Genetic divergence between genotypes for male and female broilers Ciência Rural
Veloso,Rogério de Carvalho; Ferreira,Talita Andrade; Winkelstroter,Larissa Kretli; Silva,Maria Teresa Polcaro; Pires,Aldrin Vieira; Torres Filho,Rodolpho de Almeida; Pinheiro,Sandra Regina Freitas.
ABSTRACT: The aim of this study was to verify the genetic divergence amongst three broiler genotype, from both sexes, by means of a multivariate performance analysis and carcass traits. Nine hundred and ninety sexed, one-day chicks were utilized; belonged to the following genetic groups: Cobb 500, Hubbard Flex, and Ross 308. The study evaluated the daily average weight gain, the daily average ration consumption, feed conversion, body weight, weight and performance for breast, and carcass over the period from 1 to 35, and from 1 to 42 days of age. Performance of the genetic groups was evaluated by means of multivariate analysis of variance and by Fisher's linear discriminant function, using Roy's largest eigenvalue and Roy's union-intersection test for...

Physical composition, primary cuts and meat cuts of carcasses from Zebu and Bos taurus X Bos indicus crossbred cattle R. Bras. Zootec.
Perotto,Daniel; Abrahão,José Jorge dos Santos; Moletta,José Luiz; Paula,Meiby Carneiro de; Kuss,Fernando.
Data on hot carcass weight, hot carcass yield, hindquarter weights and physical components, forequarter and spare ribs, and the weights of the main commercial cuts from the hindquarters of twenty young intact bulls were assessed. The animals, belonging to four genetic groups (Nellore, ½ Guzerath + ½ Nellore (½ G + ½ N), ½ Red Angus + ½ Nellore (½ R + ½ N) and ½ Marchigiana + ½ Nellore (½ M + ½ N)), were raised on pastures, finished in dry lot and slaughtered at live weights ranging from 445 to 517 kg, and at ages ranging from 679 to 863 days. During the dry lot period, which lasted 114 days, animals were fed sorghum silage offered ad libitum, and a concentrate (13.5 MJ of ME, 18% CP in the DM) at 1% live weight per day. Genetic group influenced hot carcass...

Physicochemical properties of meat from Bos taurus and Bos indicus R. Bras. Zootec.
Bressan,Maria Cristina; Rodrigues,Erika Cristina; Rossato,Lizandra Vercezi; Ramos,Eduardo Mendes; Gama,Luis Telo da.
The objective of this study was to characterize meat quality in Bos taurus and Bos indicus and to determine the influence of finishing system and genetic group on the physicochemical properties of the longissimus thoracis at 24 hours and 10 days post mortem (1ºC). The sample included 160 bulls of the B. taurus (n=75) and B. indicus (n=85) groups, finished either on pasture (n=46) or with grain supplementation (n=114), slaughtered at a carcass weight of 270 to 300 kg. Pasture-finished animals had higher pH, lower red content and a fat content 2.5 times lower than those finished with supplementation. Meat from supplement-finished animals had lower shear force in comparison to that from animals finished on pasture, with means of 7.7 and 8.5 kg at 24 hours,...

Quantitative characteristics of carcass and meat quality of ¾ Boer + ¼ Saanen and Saanen goat kids fed diets with dry yeast R. Bras. Zootec.
Freitas,Hanna Sakamoto; Alcalde,Claudete Regina; Lima,Luciano Soares de; Macedo,Francisco de Assis Fonseca de; Macedo,Vicente de Paulo; Molina,Bruna Susan de Labio.
Twenty-seven carcasses of non-castrated confined goat kids, (18 ¾ Boer + ¼ Saanen and nine Saanen) with slaughtered weight of 30.1 ± 0.27 kg were used to evaluate quantitative characteristics of the carcass and qualitative characteristics of the loin and shoulder. The animals were distributed in a completely randomized design in a 2 × 3 factorial arrangement (breed group × diet). The diets consisted of inclusion of dry yeast, as follows: soybean meal, soybean meal + dried yeast or dried yeast. The other ingredients of the diets were oat hay (30% DM), ground corn and mineral mixture. Hot carcass weight, cold carcass weight, weight loss by cooling, true carcass yield and carcass compactness index were not influenced by the inclusion of dry yeast nor by...
